NOTE: This is not an ADD specification. It's a short description of my own experiences and observations, as well as facts based on research.
1. What is Concentration?
2. What is the reason for the disorder?
Concentration of attention is an ability to focus on what you're doing.
Attention is closely connected to consciousness. Some activities take place through mind focused on a very small amount of stimuli, but focused intensely.
Nowadays, people who have access to the internet, tend to have attention disorder. We lost the habit of focusing on one activity at a time. There are bunch of different stimuli in media, that are supposed to prevent boredom. We often switch from one webpage to another and so on. We're not able to focus, because we constantly get new streams of information.
When we watch a video on YouTube, AnyFiles and similar, we look for a sensation. When "nothing" happens, we are bored. Boredom seems to be the most horrific experience of all, so we open a new tab or a window in our browser and look for new stimuli.
I noticed, that when a video is buffering (take it, loading), I get very impatient. I do not like to wait to be thrilled. I also observed a tendency among my friend and people I see in Internet Cafes.
When they need to wait for something or the application they're using - be it browser, an online chat, skype, or anything else - is "lagging" (take it, is very slow, barely working) they don't like it very much. And even that's an understatement.
Which translates to our everyday-real-life. Waiting for a bus, in a traffic or a line. Waiting whilst we cook and et cetera.
I remember when I was a little kid, waiting was exiting. I didn't really sit in front of my computer for hours (Not to belittle those beautiful devices).
A week ago I saw a sketch by one of Polish Stand-Up artists, entitled "A talk with a teenager", in which he said a joke about a punishment now, versus before.
"When I was fourteen and I was up to something, my mom would say : "Enough, Tommy. That's just enough. Three days you won't be going out, three days you will be playing on your computer.; Now, moms say to fourteen year old boys: "Enough. Three days you won't be playing on your computer, three days you will be going out."
Quite a funny truth, if you ask me.
I personally think that it's good to have a balance.
Ps.: Above you will find some focus exercises.
Hi, I believe that there is no one today who is you-er than you.
